How safeguarding works

From the moment you report a concern to how it's resolved — here's what to expect.

  1. You report a concern

Confidentially with your name, or anonymously — online, in person to a coach or Provincial Chairman, or via WhatsApp. No account is ever required.

  2. The Safeguarding Officer triages it

Every report goes first to the Safeguarding Officer, who reviews it, puts any immediate safety measures in place, and records the case.

  3. Risk is assessed

The case is assigned a risk level — low, medium, high, or critical — which determines how quickly and by whom it's handled.

  4. It's routed to the right level

Low and medium cases are managed by the safeguarding team; high-risk cases go to the Safeguarding Officer directly; critical cases are escalated immediately to the Managing Director.

  5. External authorities are involved where needed

Criminal offences, imminent risk, or matters requiring statutory involvement are reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Social Welfare, Child Protection Services, or the ICC Safeguarding Unit, as appropriate.

  6. You're kept informed, within confidentiality limits

If you provided contact details, the safeguarding team will follow up. Anonymous reporters can check progress any time using their case reference and follow-up code.

  7. The case is resolved and reviewed

Outcomes, actions taken, and any disciplinary steps are documented. Every action on a case is logged in Zimbabwe Cricket's audit trail.

You're protected for speaking up

Anyone who reports a concern in good faith — an Integrity Champion — is protected from retaliation, intimidation, discrimination, or loss of role or opportunity. This protection applies at every level of the organisation.
